Hypsographic curves are the measure of elevation of land or depth of water below sea level. They typically show the area, but can also be used to show the volume. The top graph shows the Lake Area Vs. Lake Depth while the second graph shows Lake Volume Vs. Lake Depth. This is based on the in class activity on Bathymetric Maps. Some good sites to visit include:
In order to calculate the volume of the lake I used an equation that I found in the power point shown above.
V= (Z(A_top+A_Bottom+√(A_top A_Bottom ))/3
where:
V=Volume
Z=change in Depth
A=Area
So my calculated volume for the lake was 815440.3147m3
